If the Alex Verus series is the Dresden Files from a better universe, this is the Dresden Files from a crummier universe. It has way too much basic m'lady energy, and when the author noted at the end of book 2 that he wrote that story in 5 months, I was like "yep, checks out". So, I've read worse things than this, but I also can't think of any situation in which I'd recommend this series to anyone. I'm giving this 2 stars rather than 1 star since at least a few of its jokes did land and gave me a sensible chuckle.
